New AgVentures! Learning Center Display

September 7, 2012--

A new exhibit was recently unveiled at the International Agri-Center’s AgVentures! Learning Center.

“Farmers are Zero Heroes, too” is the theme of the expansive exhibit, which is designed to educate children about the basics of recycling and how recycling takes place on the farm.  The exhibit is sponsored by Peña’s Disposal.

The exhibit was unveiled after a program that included Assembly Member Connie Conway, Supervisor Pete Vander Poel, International Agri-Center CEO, Jerry Sinift and Peña’s Vice-President Art Peña.  A third-grade class from St. Aloysius School in Tulare was invited to be the first to experience the hands-on exhibit.

“Our goal is to reach children with the recycling message so that they will take it home and teach their parents,” Peña noted in his presentation. “Through this partnership with the International Agri-Center, we will be able to reach children from our area as well as travelers from across the state and nation.”

The exhibit features questions and answers about basic recycling facts, and provides a look at how farmers are already reusing materials, and the many products used in agriculture that are recyclable.  The display includes a tabletop maze for children, which allows them to move items into the proper can, either recyclable, electronic waste or non-recyclable.

“Education is crucial as businesses, city and county governments strive to meet tougher waste reduction rules,” Peña added. “We are pleased to sponsor this exhibit as part of my company’s commitment to education.”

AgVentures! is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For information, visit www.penasdisposal.com.
