1,500 Students To Learn about Ag at Annual AgVentures! Day

Monday, June 01, 2020

Tulare, Calif. - The International Agri-Center (IAC) is set to host its third annual AgVentures! Day for local 4th grade students to explore farming, food and fun on Friday, May 15, 2015 in Tulare. Presentations will be aimed at teaching students about agriculture, safety and nutrition. Hands-on activities will encourage students to meaningfully engage with local food producers and learn more about Tulare County agriculture.

Over 1,500 4th grade students from Tulare and Visalia City Schools will see dairy, equine and forestry demonstrations, as well as a sheep dog demonstration. Students will also be encouraged to sample California-grown and harvested fruits, vegetables and dairy products, while learning about healthy choices and nutrition. Throughout the day, several other local organizations and companies will be on site for presentations, including a seed germination presentation by UC Master Gardeners.

“As a part of the Tulare County agricultural community, it’s important for us to facilitate fun educational experiences for children in the area,” said Kerissa Chapman, IAC’s AgVentures! and Ag Education Coordinator. “Many of our students don’t know or understand the importance of agriculture in the Central Valley—that’s why we’re here. The International Agri-Center is pleased to host this event for the third year, and for the foreseeable future.”

Alongside the International Agri-Center, AgVentures! Day is supported in part by the University of California Cooperative Extension, the Tulare County Farm Bureau and Farm Credit West.

The International Agri-Center is a 501(c)(3) organization devoted to agricultural education and awareness.  In February, it hosts the World Ag Expo, and in April, it holds the California Antique Farm Equipment Show. The International Agri-Center is also home to the AgVentures! Learning Center and Antique Tractor Museum.
